As part of efforts to reduce excessive and unhealthy environmental challenges, the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region has vowed a crackdown on poor sanitation practices.
Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Tamimu Halidu during an interview with press men after observation of the National Sanitation Day on has warned residents that the Assembly will not hesitate to prosecute if they continue to litter and neglect cleanliness in their surroundings.
This move follows a cleanup exercise that was held within the Municipality, where residents were urged to take responsibility in keeping their environment clean.
“Just like my coordinating director and municipal environmental health analyst have said, we will enforce the laws. Nkawkaw is a big town and needs special attention, it is our duty as government officials to ensure we do the right thing“, he said
The MCE emphasized that unclean environment are detrimental to public health and urged residents the need to maintain clean surroundings.
“The assembly is determined to enforce sanitation laws and ensure a clean environment for all residents. Residents who fail to keep their surroundings clean will face prosecution“,
The Municipal Environmental Health Analyst, Diamond Kwami Amedewornu disclosed that the Assembly will present letters to all those who have fail to clean their frontage for prosecution. He indicated that the Assembly had earlier resorted to dialogues where defaulters were made to buy cleaning materials.
“Unkempt environments are really not healthy, yet people litter around with refuse, into gutters and wait for flooding to occur. The assembly is determined to maintain a clean environment and ensure that residents take responsibility for their actions“,
The MCE and his team visited Fodoa and other notable areas in the Municipality to assess and monitor the exercise.
