The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized a dialogue for parliamentary candidates in the Nkoranza South constituency, Bono East Region, providing a platform for candidates to share their visions with the electorate.

The event aimed to inform citizens about the intentions and plans of the various candidates vying to represent the constituency in Parliament.

Speaking to Fabea FM’s Appiah-Kubi, Ms. Marian Owusu, Nkoranza South Municipal Director for the NCCE, revealed that the Commission conducted a nationwide survey to gather the concerns of citizens regarding their expectations of parliamentary candidates.

“Some of the major concerns raised by citizens included education, health, employment, the economy, agriculture, and road infrastructure,” Ms. Owusu explained. Based on these findings, the NCCE initiated the dialogue to give candidates an opportunity to address these issues and present their policies to the electorate.

Absence of Majority of Candidates

Ms. Owusu expressed disappointment that only one of the four candidates attended the event. She noted that invitations had been sent to all candidates, including Ms. Harriet Oppong Kyeremanteng (NPP), Sabastian Gaata (LPG), and Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum (NDC). Despite confirming the date—November 21, 2024—these candidates failed to attend.

“We are glad that Ms. Florence Ampour, the PNC candidate, was present to engage with the citizens. It is unfortunate that the others did not show up despite prior consultations and formal invitations,” she said.

PNC Candidate Shares Development Plans

Ms. Florence Ampour, the PNC parliamentary candidate, outlined her vision for Nkoranza South, addressing the concerns raised in the NCCE survey. She emphasized her commitment to facilitating development in areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Ms. Ampour appealed to her supporters to maintain a peaceful campaign and to ensure a conflict-free environment before, during, and after the elections.

“I urge everyone to prioritize peace. Elections will come and go, but we will remain one people in Nkoranza. Let us cherish our peaceful coexistence and work together for a better future,” she stated.

Community Engagement

Community members who participated in the dialogue expressed satisfaction with Ms. Ampour’s responses to their questions. They commended the NCCE for creating a platform to bridge the gap between candidates and the electorate.

Ms. Owusu concluded by emphasizing the importance of unity beyond politics. “The elections will soon be over, and we will remain the people of Nkoranza. Politics should not divide us. Let us continue to coexist peacefully because Nkoranza deserves better,” she said.

The dialogue, though marred by the absence of three candidates, succeeded in fostering civic engagement and promoting peace ahead of the elections.
