General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Fifi Kwetey has disclosed that over 356,000 voters are expected to vote in 420 voting centers across the country.

According to the General Secretary, the elections will come off as scheduled after the court struck out the lawsuit filed against the primaries by Dr. Kwabena Duffour.

The party noted that further preparations concerning the elections had been made to have free and fair primaries without any challenges.

The General Secretary also added that there will be no presidential primaries in the Manhyia South constituency.

Elections will begin at 7 am and end at 4 pm.

The largest opposition party has vowed to retake power in the next general election in 2024 as it is confident that the Presidential and Parliamentary candidates to be elected in today’s primaries will lead the 2024 agenda.

However, the former Finance Minister and aspiring flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has pulled out of the NDC Presidential race.

He announced his decision to pull out completely at a press conference later after withdrawing the suit.

According to him, the party has begun distributing ballot papers to various polling stations without his team’s involvement.

“My concerns that the party is not ready to conduct a free and fair election is evident for all of us to see”, he stated.

This leaves John Dramani Mahama and Kojo Bonsu as the candidates seeking to lead the party in the 2024 elections.

The elections which is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2023, have seen several controversies and discrepancies.
