The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has collaborated with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to emphasize its call for a forensic audit of the voter register.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has maintained its demand for an independent audit of the 2024 voters’ register.
During the meeting, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, stated that the Electoral Commission (EC) is unable to establish a reliable voter register for the 2024 elections.”
“It’s not just a matter of fixing the errors but also the vulnerabilities inherent in the register,” he said on Monday, September 23, 2024.
He expressed that the NDC has lost faith in the Electoral Commission, citing concerns about its current lack of credibility and reliability.
Dr. Omane Boamah raised concerns about stealing some Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs).
He questioned whether the missing devices were part of a move to rig the elections in any party’s favour.
“The Biometric Verification Devices kits that got stolen, could it be a product of that criminal enterprise, because those BVR laptops got stolen under CCTV surveillance?” he quizzed.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections this year.
The NDC’s meeting with the CSOs was prompted by what the party deemed an ‘unproductive’ discussion with the EC regarding the same concerns.
On September 17, 2024, the party led a nationwide ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration, after which it submitted a petition to the EC addressing its raised concerns.
