The national executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will later today meet their Members of Parliament to address the change in the party’s leadership in the House.
The meeting was earlier slated for January 31, 2023, but could not come off following an intervention by the Council of Elders of the party.
The party later rescheduled the meeting to today, Monday, February 6, 2023, in Parliament.
The National executives led by the National Chairman of the party Aseidu Nketiah reshuffled the leadership of the Minority Caucus in Parliament seeing Cassiel Ato Forson taking over from Haruna Iddrisu.
The change came as a surprise to members of the party and some sections of them were not in support of the decision.
Given the resistance from some party members and members of the minority caucus, the national executives will today sit with its side of the House to communicate properly the reason behind the change.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Zebilla constituency in the Upper East region, Cletus Avoka indicated that the party decided to effect the change after its primaries hence he does not understand why the change came this early.
The meeting is expected to explain to the caucus reasons behind the reshuffle and also get the support of all aggrieved Minority MPs.
National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, said the party is not fragmented despite the uproar that greeted changes they made in their leadership in Parliament.
According to him, the NDC is still united adding that the changes have been welcomed by majority of the NDC members.
However, Parliament is expected to resume sitting on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.
