The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)in a meeting on January 16, 2024, has postponed the parliamentary primaries in the Odododiodio constituency.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, he disclosed that the decision is due to a court injunction obtained by a disqualified candidate, Michael Nii Yarboi Annan.

The General Secretary noted that due to the court injunction, all activities related to primaries in the constituency have been temporarily halted.

According to him, Michael Annan, a disqualified candidate, took legal actions against his disqualification from the party’s primaries, however, the party was issued an interlocutory injunction, preventing the NDC from conducting the election until the matter is resolved.

“We wish to inform you that the party was served with a notice of interlocutory injunction by a parliamentary candidate aspirant of the Odododiodoo constituency who was disqualified from contesting the primaries,” a portion of the release stated.

The party urged all branch and constituency executives to ensure peace and harmony during this period of postponement as the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) set a new date.

“In the interim, you are to ensure that all beach and constituency executives live in peace and harmony pending the determination of the matter and the fixing of a new date for the conduct of the elections”, he added.

The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress disqualified Michael Nii Yarboi from contesting the parliamentary elections in the Odododiodioo Constituency.

In a statement dated November 28, the decision comes after the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) met at the headquarters to receive the report of the Special Committee set up to investigate the violence that occurred at Odododiodioo Constituency during the vetting of parliamentary aspirants held on October 13, 2023.

“The other two aspirants, Mr Alfred Nii Kotei Ashie and Mr Emmanuel Nii Kotei Ashie whose supporters the Committee’s findings reveal that they caused the damage to properties at the Center of the vetting are at this moment surcharged jointly for all the cost of the damage at the centre”, a portion of the release stated.
