The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has petitioned the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to arrest the Minister in charge of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, over comments he made some days ago.
Speaking to party supporters in Mpraeso on Saturday after a health walk organized by the New Patriotic Party, the former Minister of Food and Agriculture said the NPP would never hand over power to the NDC.
The comment from the current minister of Food and Agriculture has raised a series of conversations across the country with the largest opposition party, NDC calling for his head.
According to the NDC, the comments from the Minister threatens the country’s peace and described it as an act of treason by the Minister.
This has however led to the submission of a petition to the CID by lawyers of the NDC to immediately arrest and prosecute the newly sworn-in minister.
Additionally, the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) has also called on the Police Service to invite and question the Minister over his comments.
Present at the Police headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, the NDC lawyers led by Abraham Amaliba, the party submitted a petition and a copy of the video in which Dr. Bryan Acheampong was seen making those comments.
He added that the party expects the CID to act accordingly to arrest and prosecute Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong is the Member of Parliament for the Abetifi constituency in the Eastern region and Minister in charge of Food and Agriculture.
