Twelve aspirants have been cleared to contest the Tamale Central Constituency parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) scheduled for September 6, 2025, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
The vetting panel, chaired by Deputy General Secretary Lawyer Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, concluded its work on August 31, confirming all aspirants eligible for the contest.
Lawyer Asamoah described the calibre of candidates as impressive, noting the inclusion of professionals such as professors, lawyers, doctors, and diplomats.
She also emphasized the presence of three female contenders, calling it a refreshing development. The party has since encouraged aspirants to focus on issue-based campaigns devoid of insults.
Among the contenders, Professor Alidu Seidu pledged a decent campaign, mindful of the tragic by-election circumstances following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament in a helicopter crash.
Dr Aliu Abdul Hamid projected victory by a landslide, while Hajia Mulaika Sualisu appealed to delegates, especially women, to back her bid. The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John, urged unity and calm, cautioning against acts of violence.
