A group of alleged supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) staged a protest at the premises of the Bui Power Authority (BPA) on Saturday, January 11, 2025, calling for the immediate removal of all current employees.
In a widely circulated video, the visibly agitated group justified their demands by claiming that the change in government should reflect a complete transformation of the Authority’s personnel.
The protesters emphasized the need for improved management and equitable opportunities within the BPA. Citing dissatisfaction with the country’s progress over the past eight years, the group argued that a leadership overhaul was critical to driving national development.
“We are here to tell anybody that has been employed, from management to security or whoever it is, that now our government is in power,” the group’s spokesperson declared.
“We know we’ve got a new Energy Minister, and we are saying that all those people must pack their baggage and leave because, for the past eight years, we’ve seen nothing.”
The spokesperson further expressed frustration over what they described as stagnation in the nation’s growth, stating,
“If anything, we should have seen our country growing, our country getting better. We are fed up. So all of them should pack their things and leave. Not even John Mahama will stop us because the country belongs to all of us.”
While the protest has sparked significant public discourse, authorities at the Bui Power Authority have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Meanwhile, political analysts warn that such protests could heighten tensions and undermine efforts to foster unity and stability in the country’s post-election period.
The protest highlights ongoing debates about political appointments and the role of government institutions in ensuring transparency and inclusivity in their operations.
