The former National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Said Sinare has described the change in leadership of the minority in Parliament as harsh, unfriendly and tyrannical.
According to him the Haruna-led Parliamentary leadership fought relentlessly and gave birth to the speaker they have in Parliament today and should be maintained as they head to the 2024 general elections.
The party announced a reshuffle in its Parliamentary Leadership on January 24, 2023.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC noted that the new leadership would be charged to recommend consequential changes in the Ranking membership to the Headquarters of the party for approval.
However, in a letter signed by the former vice chairman, he noted that the timing of the change is wrong and very disrespectful as he believes experienced hands would be needed in the 2024 general elections if the NDC wants to win.
“In as much as I wholeheartedly disagree with this disrespectful, wrong timing, and wicked political decision, I want to remind those behind the agenda that experience is important as we move forward into the crucial 2024 general election, and we must avoid the mistakes of putting personal interests ahead of the party and national interests”, the statement indicated.
The statement further indicated that, though there are crisis in the party, leadership must put the interest of the party first and handle issues well to avoid any unrest within the party.
“There is a need to quickly find an amicable resolution to the imbroglio to forestall it from degenerating or escalating into a major crisis because of the party’s national outlook, which would make it very easy for a crisis within the party to spread across the nook and cranny of the country”, Alhaji Said Sinare said.
He added that the party, like others, will provide the electorate with options to make their desired choice of candidates at the polls come 2024, and it will be disastrous to have a divided front.
The former national vice chairman in his disappointment to the development said “In as much as I am waiting for someone to convince me that this is not a harmful agenda for political expediency, I am equally of the opinion that the crux of the change in parliamentary leadership is very delicate and should be of serious concern to all well-meaning party people”.
The NDC is presently the main opposition party to check on the activities of the government towards encouraging competitiveness and effectiveness of governance as applicable in all modern democracies of the world.
Alhaji Said Sinare also sent caution to beneficiaries of the change to desist because victory is not something one person can achieve and added it is what all of us must come together and push for.
He concluded that, “as far as I know, Ghanaians won’t forgive us if our personal interests make us fail in making H.E. John Dramani Mahama the next president of Ghana”.
