The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, in his capacity as Chairperson of the National Election Security Taskforce (NESTF), met with representatives of all political parties to deliberate on security strategies ahead of the December 7 elections.
This unprecedented initiative reflects a proactive approach to ensuring transparency, de-escalating potential tensions, and fostering confidence in the electoral process.
Dr. Dampare emphasized the NESTF’s dedication to impartiality, professionalism, and collaboration.
He highlighted the importance of frequent engagement with political parties as a means to prevent misinformation and ensure all stakeholders are aligned.
“We are committed to delivering peaceful, secure, and orderly elections.
Together, we can set a standard for future generations, demonstrating that Ghana remains a beacon of democracy,” Dr. Dampare stated.
Key Discussions
The meeting addressed critical issues, including de-escalation strategies, the prohibition of unauthorized uniforms, and measures to prevent voter intimidation.
Dr. Dampare urged political parties to share contact details of key representatives to facilitate swift communication and resolution of disputes.
He also reiterated that only official state security personnel are permitted to wear agency uniforms and warned against the use of vigilantes or any form of intimidation at polling stations.
“Anyone found disrupting the electoral process or intimidating voters will face the full force of the law.
The security agencies are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful environment for all citizens to exercise their franchise,” he affirmed.

The NDC remains committed to adhering to these guidelines and ensuring a smooth electoral process,” he said.
Evans Nimako, Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), reiterated the party’s commitment to respecting electoral rules at all levels.
He emphasized the importance of combating misinformation and praised the professionalism of the security agencies during the special voting on December 2.

Dr. Dampare concluded the meeting by urging all parties to prioritize Ghana’s peace and democracy above partisan interests.
“History will remember us for the values we uphold.
Let us ensure that this election reflects the will of the people in a peaceful and credible manner,” he said.
