The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP), Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening social protection initiatives following a working visit to the UN Resident Coordinator’s office on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

The visit served as an opportunity for the Minister to formally introduce herself to the various United Nations (UN) agencies, including UNICEF, UNFPA, FAO, WFP, and UNDP, and to discuss the key priorities of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

Welcoming the Minister, the UN Resident Coordinator in Ghana, Mr. Charles Abani, congratulated her on her appointment and outlined the UN’s operational focus on three critical areas: Inclusive Development, Equitable Access to Services, and Peace & Security.

He reaffirmed the UN agencies’ commitment to collaborating with the Ministry to help achieve the President’s vision for gender and social protection.

Mr. Abani further emphasized the importance of sustainable financing, digitalization, and human rights in their joint efforts to drive meaningful change in Ghana’s social protection landscape.

Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey expressed gratitude for the continued support from UN agencies, commending their dedication to improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians.

She reiterated the Ministry’s intent to foster stronger partnerships to successfully implement the President’s 120-day agenda and broader social protection policies.

A key focus area, she noted, would be the Ministry’s collaboration with the Ministry of Education to fulfill the President’s vision of providing free tertiary education for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), ensuring equitable access to education without barriers.

Additionally, she pledged to enhance existing social protection programmes such as the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) initiative and the School Feeding Programme to reach a larger number of vulnerable Ghanaians.

“Where I sit, it’s not about me but about the welfare and improvement of the livelihoods of Ghanaians,” the Minister emphasized.

Hon. Dr. Lartey was accompanied by Chief Director Dr. Afisah Zakariah, Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Mrs. Florence Ayisi Quartey, and Director of the Department of Gender Madam Faustina Acheampong.
