The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has inaugurated a newly constituted Board of Trustees for the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), with a firm directive to prioritize prudent investment, ethical leadership, and transparent management of the nation’s pension funds.

Speaking at the official swearing-in ceremony held in Accra, Dr. Forson underscored the critical role SSNIT plays in safeguarding the financial future of Ghana’s workforce.

“SSNIT is not just another institution—it is a lifeline we will all depend on someday. Your work here affects every Ghanaian who contributes to the scheme,” he told the new board members.

Highlighting growing public concern over past financial decisions, the Minister openly questioned the viability of some of SSNIT’s previous investments.

He urged the new board to adopt a more strategic and responsible investment approach, one that ensures long-term sustainability and public trust.

In a pointed remark on asset management, Dr. Forson cautioned against any attempt to offload public assets to individuals with political affiliations. “Let me be clear,” he said.

“Do not sell state assets to politicians. The President will not tolerate it, and I, as your supervising minister, will be the first to raise objections.”

Reiterating government’s commitment to the pension scheme, Dr. Forson assured the trustees that all statutory payments due SSNIT had been settled.
