On Thursday, September 19, 2024, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor met with a high-level delegation from Newmont Corporation, led by President and CEO Tom Palmer, at the Ministry.
The meeting focused on Newmont’s operations and ongoing investments in Ghana.
Mr. Palmer expressed appreciation for the government’s steadfast support, particularly regarding the new mine in Ahafo, which has been crucial for the company’s advancement in the region.
In response, Minister Jinapor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a conducive investment environment to attract and retain major investors like Newmont. He noted that the government’s support has significantly bolstered investments in the country’s natural resources sector.
This meeting highlights Newmont Corporation’s commitment to expanding its presence in Ghana and the government’s proactive role in ensuring the mining sector remains a vital part of the national economy. It also emphasizes the government’s ongoing efforts to cultivate a favourable business climate and promote investment in Ghana’s mining industry.
Newmont Corporation, recognized for operating the country’s largest gold mine in Ahafo, is also in the process of constructing another significant mine in the same region.
