The National Film Authority (NFA) has announced the top three winners of the Ananse Scriptwriting Awards, part of its broader initiative to nurture and showcase emerging scriptwriting talents in Ghana.
The Ananse Scriptwriting Project, spearheaded by the NFA, seeks to harness the potential of young scriptwriters by creating a pool of scripts accessible to filmmakers for future productions.
During the awards ceremony, Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, CEO of the NFA, highlighted the significance of the project.
“The Script Bank initiative is essential for developing and celebrating young scriptwriting talent while building a repository of scripts for future use,” she stated.
In an effort to sustain and refine this talent, the top ten awardees will be invited to join a Script Writing Academy aimed at further honing their skills.
After weeks of a thorough review of 300 submissions, the committee declared Nana Akosua Asiedua Ansah as the winner, awarding her a cash prize of GHC 5,000. Gabriel Adusei Kwarteng secured the first runner-up position, winning GHC 3,000, while Koby Owusu Cole took the second runner-up spot with a prize of GHC 2,000.
SCRIPTBANK
SCRIPTBANK is an initiative by the National Film Authority designed to bridge the gap between producers, directors, and scriptwriters.
It’s time to spread our wings and harness the creative genius of our people, particularly our enterprising youth, to craft compelling stories for Ghana, Africa, and the world.
Launched as a pilot two years ago, SCRIPTBANK has already infused the film industry with three top-tier writers.
This year, in collaboration with the National Folklore Board Ghana, the program took a bold step by focusing on revitalizing our rich Ananse folklore stories—a treasure trove of culture and wisdom.
