The Ngleshie Amanfrom Traditional Authority has ordered the exhumation of a deceased person’s body, which was buried without the permission of the chiefs and elders of the area.
According to sources, the bereaved family, who lives in Gomoa Nyanyano, smuggled their deceased relative to Ngleshie Amanfrom cemetery without giving prior notice to the traditional authority.
In a viral video sighted by myrepublicononline.com, the body was exhumed and returned to the mortuary for preservation.
Meanwhile, the family has been summoned to appear before the Ngleshie Amanfrom Traditional Council to perform rites.
In another report by Rainbow Radio, Chief Nii Quarshie Gbolor ordered the exhumation of the corpse.
He noted that the act by the family as a sacrilege, disrespectful to the traditional authority in the area.
Aside from that, the bereaved family was accused of violating the ban on noisemaking and drumming as part of activities preceding the Homowo festival celebration.
The family had planned a simple funeral, so they went to the mortuary, performed the necessary rites, and then went straight to the cemetery.
The body had been in the mortuary for nearly a year, so the family wanted to save money.
Their desire to hold a simple funeral without incurring costs was cut short when they were ordered to exhume their relative’s mortal remains.
