A delegation from the World Bank Group on Wednesday met with Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, the Acting Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), to discuss follow-up actions on improving efficiency within the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The meeting at the NHIA head office focused on the findings of a recent NHIS efficiency analysis, emphasizing the need for the NHIA to address inefficiencies identified to ensure the Scheme’s long-term sustainability.
Additionally, the meeting touched on the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) concerns regarding the NHIS’s financial sustainability and the need for the NHIA to implement reforms to address these concerns.
Dr. Bampoe assured the delegation that the Authority is committed to improving efficiency within the NHIS and hinted that a working group would be formed to expedite this agenda.
The meeting marked yet another important step towards strengthening the partnership between the NHIA and the World Bank Group.
The World Bank Group was represented by Mr. Owen Smith, Lead Economist, and Mr. Enoch Oti Agyekum, Health Economist, with some directors from the NHIA also in attendance.
