The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released GH₵270 million to healthcare providers nationwide to settle claims submitted and vetted up to October 2024 and part of November 2024.
This payment aligns with the Authority’s commitment to maintaining a three-month reimbursement schedule, ensuring no outstanding vetted claims remain unpaid.
The latest disbursement brings the total funds released by the NHIA over the past four months to more than GH₵1.2 billion.
These efforts underscore the Authority’s dedication to supporting healthcare providers, sustaining the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and enhancing the delivery of quality healthcare services to Ghanaians.
Since the introduction of a prompt payment regime earlier in 2024, the NHIA has maintained a debt-free status. This regime has proven instrumental in guaranteeing timely reimbursements to healthcare facilities, enabling them to continue providing critical services without financial constraints.
Healthcare providers are encouraged to submit their claims promptly, adhering to the 90-day submission window to ensure uninterrupted processing.
The NHIA remains steadfast in fostering strong partnerships with providers and addressing any challenges to sustain an efficient healthcare system.
Previous Payments Strengthen Financial Commitment
In recent months, the NHIA has consistently disbursed substantial funds to healthcare providers. On December 1, 2024, GH₵200 million was allocated to settle claims for September and part of October 2024. Earlier, on October 9, 2024, the Authority disbursed over GH₵335 million for August claims. Additionally, in September 2024, GH₵402 million was released to cover claims for June and July 2024.
These payments highlight the NHIA’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling its financial obligations and bolstering the health sector. By ensuring the timely reimbursement of claims, the Authority aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery nationwide.
Expanding Access to Comprehensive Healthcare
The NHIS continues to provide extensive benefits, covering over 95 percent of disease conditions and including more than 550 medications on its approved list. This comprehensive package ensures that subscribers receive the necessary support for their healthcare needs.
The NHIA expressed gratitude to healthcare providers for their dedication and continuous efforts in delivering high-quality healthcare services to Ghanaians. The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to engaging with stakeholders to address concerns and strengthen collaborations essential for an effective healthcare system.
