The Corporate Affairs Directorate within the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has intensified its public education efforts with a sensitization exercise at the Police Hospital in Accra.
The initiative, which is part of an ongoing campaign in selected health facilities, aims to educate patients on the benefits of joining the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and how to maximize its offerings.
The exercise began at the Outpatient Department (OPD), where patients were briefed on the NHIS Benefit Package, registration processes, and digital services.
The team highlighted the convenience of the *929# shortcode for policy renewals and the “MyNHIS” mobile app, which allows users to enroll with the use of the Ghana card and manage their membership digitally.
Special attention was also given to the enrollment process for Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributors and individuals aged 70 and above.
The team further engaged expectant mothers at the hospital’s antenatal unit, sensitizing them on the Free Maternal Care (FMC) policy. Many of the pregnant women expressed gratitude for the initiative, acknowledging the financial relief it offers throughout pregnancy and childbirth.
The NHIA continues to expand its outreach efforts to ensure more Ghanaians are informed about the Scheme’s benefits and how to access quality healthcare with ease.
