The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has resolved to begin the publishing of claims payments to credentialed healthcare facilities under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

This, in the estimation of the Chief Executive, Dr. Okoe-Boye will deepen accountability, transparency and social auditing.

As part of his three-day tour of the Central Region, the NHIA Boss disclosed this new directive known as the ‘Sunshine policy’ when he interacted with the Chief Director of the  Regional Coordinating Council, Mr. Kingsley Adjei Boahene and some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives.

He said, “We will make payment plans more understandable by all since we make payment every month to facilities but because by default, we owe the facilities when arrears are paid facilities make it look as if we owe them several months or have not made payments at all.”

According to Dr. Okoe Boye, the recent upward adjustment of medicines and service tariffs by 50 percent sought to financially sustain the Authority’s credentialed healthcare service providers, for which reason extra monetary demands (Copayments) at the point of need should be a thing of the past.

He commended some Members of Parliament (MPs) who have embarked on mass registration of  their constituents onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and urged their colleagues to do same, as means of increasing the Scheme’s active membership.“Our targets cannot be achieved without the help of the MPs and MMDCEs and so we need to work closely with them to achieve our targets.”

On behalf of the Regional Minister, the Chief Director, Mr. Kinsley Adjei Boahene reassured the NHIA of the Coordinating Council’s concerted efforts to increase the Scheme’s active membership.

He urged the Authority’s Executive Management to speed up and complete all ongoing projects in the region and added that Claims paid to the credentialed facilities should always be on time. The MMDCEs praised the NHIA for leveraging on technology in providing healthcare services to the destitute with the introduction of the new mobile App known as MyNHIS.

A delegation led by the Chief Executive, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye on Monday, February 20, 2023, commenced a working visit to the Central Region, in line with his nationwide tour.

He was accompanied by the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Admin /HR, Yaa Pokuaa Baiden (Mrs), the Deputy Chief Executive in Charge of Operations, Vivian Addo Cobbiah (Mrs) and some Directors and deputy Directors at the head office.

The NHIA Chief Executive has so far toured the Greater Accra, Eastern, Western, Ashanti, Volta, Oti, Northern, North East, Savannah, and Upper East Regions.
