The Government, through the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), is working towards sustaining the free dialysis program, which was added to the National Health Insurance Scheme, (NHIS) Benefit Package, providing services to renal patients covered by the Scheme.
The NHIA’s new Deputy Chief Executive of Operations, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, reassured the beneficiaries when he addressed the Tamale Teaching Hospital’s 2024 Annual Performance Review Meeting under the theme “Transforming Service Delivery through Professional Excellence and Ethical Practice.”
He was with top management officials from the Head Office, including the Director in charge of Special Initiatives and Liaison to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Anthony Gingong, Director of Financial Accounting, Dr. Gustav Cruickshank, Director of Private Health Insurance Schemes, Alhaji Hudu Issah, Director of Strategic Health Purchasing, Dr. Ruby Aileen Mensah Annan (Mrs.), Ag. Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah, and Deputy Director, Membership and Regional Operations, Mariam Musah (Ms.).
His presence at the event, which was held in Tamale, was part of the new NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe’s maiden working visit to the Northern and Upper East Regions.
Dr. Djokoto reaffirmed NHIA’s commitment to creating a sustainable and progressive atmosphere for the delivery of efficient services to all members enrolled on the scheme.
“With this move, I am certain that there will be no interruption to the services that are being rendered by accredited facilities.”
He acknowledged plays in healthcare delivery and assured them of the government’s maximum support.
He called for a reinforced partnership between the NHIA and the nation’s teaching hospitals to enhance the government’s free primary healthcare agenda.
“The Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) was launched on Wednesday. It will adopt a comprehensive approach to addressing chronic illnesses. For individuals with hypertension, diabetes, and those requiring interventions like dialysis, a visionary policy is necessary to support them in mitigating the devastating financial consequences of their conditions.”
The Tamale Teaching Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Adam Atiku, expressed gratitude to the NHIA for promptly reimbursing credentialed healthcare facilities for services rendered to NHIS active members.
He thanked the NHIA for its unwavering support of the hospital, particularly in the area of dialysis services, and said the program’s sustainability should be prioritized.
On behalf of the Health Minister, the Acting Director for Technical Coordination at the Ministry of Health, Dr Hafez Adams, said the government will prioritize healthcare for all residents of Ghana.
