The National Identification Authority (NIA) has received a shipment of 700,000 blank cards to address the backlog in Ghana Card issuance.
The delivery, which arrived on Monday, February 17, 2025, follows negotiations led by the Acting Executive Secretary with the NIA’s technical partners.
These blank cards will be used to print long-pending records, including first-time issuances, card replacements, and personal information updates that have been delayed since 2023.
The move aligns with the government’s goal of ensuring all Ghanaians aged 15 and above have access to the Ghana Card for identification and verification purposes.
To fast-track the printing process, a technical team has been deployed to oversee card issuance and coordinate distribution to district offices nationwide. The NIA will communicate the schedule for card collection once printing is completed.
Additionally, the NIA has reminded the public that over 600,000 Ghana Cards have been printed but remain uncollected at various regional and district offices since 2018. A system is currently being developed to enhance the distribution of these unclaimed cards.
The Authority assures Ghanaians that it remains committed to efficient operations and timely service delivery in the best interest of the nation.
