The National Identification Authority (NIA) has officially confirmed the full payment of a long-awaited 20% Operational Support Allowance owed to its staff, covering January to July 2025.
This positive development follows a nationwide strike by NIA workers, sparked by the Ministry of Finance’s earlier failure to provide assurances or a clear timeline for the disbursement of the only allowance granted beyond their basic salaries.
At a press briefing, the NIA’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, announced the clearance of the arrears and thanked staff for their patience throughout the industrial action.
“I’m happy to announce that the 20% Staff Operational Allowance is being paid and the arrears from January to July have been cleared,” he stated.
Darlas reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to maintaining a secure and credible national ID system, assuring the public that all operations remain legally compliant and robust.
