The Staff of National Identification Authority (NIA) has called off their indefinite strike declared on Monday, June 10, 2024.

In a statement dated Wednesday, June 12, NIA disclosed that the suspension comes after intervention from key stakeholders and discerning Ghanaians.

“The reason for this suspension is based on several interventions from stakeholders including the Minister of National Security, the invitation from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to the negotiation table, the advice of the mother union based on the ruling of the National Labour Commission today, and the public outcry of discerning Ghanaians”, excerpt of the release read.

The Authority further highlighted that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commissions (FWSC) has promised to meet their demands by Friday, June 14.

“It must be noted that the FWSC has assured us of their willingness to act in good faith in our subsequent engagements. However, this gesture will be put to test on Friday, 14 June 2024″, the release stated.

Meanwhile, NIA has threatened to continue the strike if the government fails to meet their demands as promised by Friday.

“Members are therefore assured that, if at the close of negotiations on Friday, the government fails to demonstrate true faith by granting us Institution Specific Allowances, we would not be hesitant to return to our
industrial action…” the statement added.
