The National Identification Authority (NIA) has intensified efforts to prosecute foreign nationals attempting to fraudulently register for the Ghana Card.
One individual has already been jailed for eight months, with 13 additional cases — including a group of seven Nigerians — currently under investigation. The NIA says all convicted offenders will be deported after serving their sentences.
This crackdown follows tip-offs from financial institutions and concerned citizens, prompting increased surveillance at registration centres nationwide.
The NIA has reaffirmed that the Ghana Card remains a critical national security tool and is urging the public to report any suspicious activity at registration points to protect the integrity of the system.
