Olorogun Oskar Eyovbirere Ibru, chairman of the Ibru Organisation and one of Nigeria’s high-profile business figures, passed away on September 24, 2025, after a brief illness, aged 67, his family has confirmed.

Born on 11 August 1958, Oskar Ibru was the eldest son of the late industrialist Michael Ibru, founder of the Ibru dynasty.

He attended Igbobi College for his secondary education before furthering his studies abroad, where he earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s in business administration.

Oskar Ibru emerged as a leading custodian of his family’s vast business interests, steering the Ibru Organisation through a changing economic landscape. The conglomerate holds stakes in shipping, oil and gas, real estate, agriculture, commerce, and more.

Under his watch, the group continued to serve as a major employer and economic contributor in Nigeria.

Beyond business, he was known for his social presence, philanthropy, and commitment to his Urhobo roots.

The Ibru family is among Nigeria’s most storied business dynasties. Over decades, they have held influence in multiple sectors—as industrialists, politicians, and cultural figures.

Other notable members include Michael Ibru (the patriarch), Alex Ibru (founder of The Guardian), Felix Ibru (former Delta Governor), and Goodie Ibru.

Oskar’s death marks a new chapter and challenge for the family: ensuring the continuity of the business empire amid evolving market dynamics.
