A Nigerian national, Mohammed Baba, and two Ghanaians, Francis Baidoo and Wisdom Aleki, have been sentenced to a total of 50 years in prison for attempted robbery.
The Assin Kyekywere Circuit Court handed down the sentence, with Francis Baidoo and Wisdom Aleki receiving 15 years each for conspiracy to commit a crime and attempted robbery.
Mohammed Baba received a 20-year sentence for conspiracy, causing harm, and attempted robbery.
The three convicts had planned to rob Emmanuel Obese, a cocoa-purchasing clerk in Wawase Semanhyia.
However, their plan was foiled when a witness raised an alarm, leading to their arrest. During the manhunt, Mohammed Baba and another suspect, Francis Larbi, attacked commuters, inflicting knife wounds on Emmanuel Nti. Baba was eventually overpowered and arrested.
The police are still searching for Francis Larbi, who is currently on the run. Chief Inspector Abagna Anyongo stated that efforts are being made to apprehend Larbi and bring him to justice.
