The Eastern South Regional Police Command has successfully arrested eleven individuals involved in illegal mining activities at Fichser near Bunsu.
The arrests were made on April 2, 2025, following a complaint about their involvement in unlawful mining operations.
According to a signed statement from Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Foster Owusu, Staff Officer at the Eastern South Regional Police Command, the suspects include nine Ghanaians and two Burkinabes.
The arrested individuals are identified as Kwaku Owusu (42), Philip Tetteh (52), Abdul Raham (27), Philip Duvor (40), Joseph Asare (32), Charles Manu (35), Joseph Araboga (32), Daniel Bangah (20), Amoaho Isaac (25), Jey Done (40) from Burkina Faso, and Adomah Bouba (25), also from Burkina Faso.
Police officials also recovered and impounded one excavator from the site, which is believed to have been used in the illegal mining activities.
“All eleven suspects are currently in police custody, and they are being processed to face justice,” stated ASP Owusu.
“The police will continue to pursue efforts to curb illegal mining and ensure law and order are maintained in the region.”
The police also assured the general public, particularly the communities within the Eastern South Region, that the Ghana Police Service remains committed to combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
