A coordinated intelligence-led operation by personnel of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces has led to the arrest of a 50-year-old man and the seizure of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Nkwanta in the Oti Region.
The operation, carried out on the evening of August 1, 2025, followed credible intelligence that some individuals suspected to be linked to recent violent disturbances in Nkwanta and surrounding areas were in possession of illegal weapons.
Acting swiftly, the security team moved to a targeted location near King’s Filling Station Down. The area was secured to ensure the safety of civilians and prevent any suspects from fleeing.
A search conducted on the premises led to the discovery of two single-barrel guns and four rounds of AAA ammunition in the room of the suspect, identified as Francis Donkor.

Donkor was immediately arrested and transported to the police station, where he remains in custody as investigations continue.
The retrieved weapons and ammunition have been taken into evidence to support the ongoing probe and potential prosecution.
Security authorities say the operation forms part of broader efforts to clamp down on unauthorized arms possession in the wake of heightened tensions and violent incidents in the area.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public order and cautioned the public against the unlawful acquisition or use of firearms.
