The National Labour Commission has said, it will take further action if CLOGSAG fails to call off strike as it has been discussed since yesterday.
The Executive Director of the NLC, Mr. Ofosu Asamoah during a phone – in interview with Kwame Koranteng on Republic FM’s Anopa Dawuro on Tuesday, April 26 said, the commission had engaged the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (GLOGSAG) to call off its strike by today, April 26.
“We are following the development, we have discussed everything and they told us they will call off the strike today, it was supposed to be earlier but a letter is supposed to be sent from the Jubilee House to the Controller after a meeting with the government and that has kept the call off back”.
However, the NLC boss stated that per the directives from the National Labour Commission, the CLOGSAG had no perilous justification to go on strike.
“The strike itself, per the directive of the NLC, they were not supposed to go on strike and after when we heard some of their members are on strike, we engaged the national executives of the CLOGSAG and they told us that they have not ordered anyone to go on strike bit insisted that they have heard some of their members are going on strike, and apparently they will call them to order and so we were expecting that from yesterday the strike will go down”, he said.
The General secretary of the CLOGSAG, Mr. Bampoe issued a statement on last Friday, April 22, adding that from Monday, April 25 will ensure that all CLOGSAG workers return to their various jurisdictions.
But according to the NLC boss, he only realized that the strike is still in effect but revealed that he has engaged some of the National Executives and they informed him, per their engagement with the government, a letter has to be sent to the Controller per the agreement it had with the government.
“I only realized the strike is in effect and they said, per their negotiations with the government, a letter must be sent to the Controller to inform him government’s decision as to when he must start to pay them so they can begin their work and I’m to the letter will go to the Controller”, he said.
However, the NLC boss warned that, should the CLOGSAG fail to call off its strike, the NLC will take further available actions to force them to get back to work.
“Definitely by today, the strike will be over. But if they fail to call it off, the National Labour Commission will take the necessary action and force them to get back to work”, he stated.
