Residents of Nnweneso-Abodiese have pleaded with government of Ghana to come to fix their deplorable roads.
The road has been tagged as a death trap due to its bad state.
Inhabitants said they are frustrated over the bad roads in their communities which are serving as a hindrance to their agricultural production, health care delivery and other economic activities.
The chief of Abodiese in the Atwima Kwanwoma district of the Ashanti Region, Nana Gyimah Asante II said, there is no single road functioning in his community and other near by communities.
He disclosed that ”All roads are in a deplorable state, modernization of agriculture would not yield the needed results while food produced in his communities are left to rot due to poor roads’‘.
A concerned resident, Emmanuel Adjei also added that “peasant farmers are labouring to profit middlemen but are rather poor because they are unable to transport their produce to marketing centres”.
Fred, a driver and resident of Nnweneso No1 also said ” We are really struggling with our roads. As a community, we have to contribute for over 30 tons of gravels to fill the potholes. We heard that the road has been awarded to a contractor, a construction company belonging to the Ashanti Regional NPP chairman Mr Benard Antwi Bosiako (Chairman Wontumi). They visited the area and started the project somewhere early part of last year, but presently the contractor is not coming any longer so the project has been abandoned”.
Michael Akwaboa a motor rider added that, “I’m an Okada driver and when I go to certain areas and compare to mine, I cry almost everytime. I always have a problem with my motorcycle. We need the government to do something, we need them to repair the road, we are their people”.
