No contact with Mahama over Ofori-Atta case – Akufo-Addo

The office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has refuted claims suggesting he is seeking to meet President John Dramani Mahama to secure assurances for the safety of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta amid ongoing legal proceedings.

The clarification comes as Mr. Ofori-Atta faces investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over allegations of causing financial loss to the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Akufo-Addo’s office described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them. “The office wishes to state emphatically that this publication is utterly false. It is a total fabrication by the supposed source. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated such a consideration nor expressly or impliedly made any request or representation to President John Dramani Mahama,” the statement read.

The office reiterated that the former president remains a strong supporter of democratic principles and the rule of law. While expressing personal concern for Mr. Ofori-Atta due to familial ties and his service in the Akufo-Addo administration, the statement stressed that this concern does not extend to interfering in legal processes.

“Hopefully, this sets the record straight on the matter,” the statement concluded.
