Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has given an update on the situation of Ghanaians living in the Middle East.
Ablakwa has said he held a virtual meeting with Ghana’s Ambassadors and Consul Generals n the region to review the latest developments and discuss steps to protect Ghanaian citizens.
The Heads of Mission in Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Iran and Turkey all joined the meeting.
“I am glad to report that so far no Ghanaian has been killed or injured,” he said.
According to him, the government has compiled a reliable database of Ghanaians in those countries, including people on short visits and those who were only transiting.
He added that all missions have been directed to identify citizens who may want to be evacuated so the government can urgently consider their requests.
He also revealed that Ghana’s diplomatic missions are currently helping a number of Ghanaians move through some strategic border crossings to safer locations.
“The safety and welfare of all Ghanaians remains our utmost priority,” he assured.
