The General Secretary of the Health Services Workers’ Union (HSWU), Franklin Owusu Ansah, has firmly stated that no government in power can ever “buy” the leadership of trade unions.
This assertion came during an appearance on the popular show “Wednesday Palaver,” usually hosted by renowned Ghanaian journalist, Kwesi Pratt, on Pan African TV.
Mr. Ansah addressed persistent rumors suggesting that politicians have been attempting to infiltrate and influence the decisions of trade unions.
According to him, the general public should disregard such “fallacies,” emphasizing the independence and non-political stance of trade unions.
“Trade unions are non-political and we do not align ourselves to political parties,” he reiterated.
Mr. Ansah also took the opportunity to announce his candidacy for the position of Deputy Secretary General of the TUC in the upcoming TUC Delegates’ Congress scheduled for August this year.
