The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has assured the public of its commitment to supporting peaceful Presidential and Parliamentary elections in December 2024.

In a statement released on December 1, 2024, the GAF emphasized that no military personnel will be stationed at polling stations during the elections.

According to the release, the primary responsibility for election security rests with the Ghana Police Service (GPS). The military’s role will be limited to standby support, and deployment will only occur upon a formal request from the police.

The GAF also urged the public to report any individuals claiming to be military personnel or wearing military-patterned attire at polling stations to the nearest police station or via the GPS toll-free numbers, 18555 or 0800 311 311. This, the military stated, will help protect the security and integrity of the election process.

GAF encouraged Ghanaians to cooperate with security personnel, exercise their civic duties responsibly, and avoid actions that could disrupt the peace.

“GAF reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the stability and sovereignty of the nation while protecting the integrity of the election process,” the statement concluded.

The announcement underscores the collaborative efforts of the security agencies in ensuring peaceful and transparent elections.
