Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has had his say on who is the greatest footballer of all time, saying Lionel Messi is the best.
According to him, many people may have their choices, but cannot doubt that Messi is now there at the level with the greatest footballers in the world.
Asked at a press conference on Wednesday ahead of Man City’s League Cup game against Liverpool about whether lifting the world cup makes Messi the greatest player of all time, Guardiola insisted that Messi has now eclipsed players like Diego Maradona and Pele in the all-time rankings and deserves to be regarded as the game’s all-time greatest player.
“Everyone has his opinion but nobody can doubt that he IS there with the greatest of all time. For me, i have said many times that is the best and it will be difficult to understand.
“A player can appear and compete with what he has done in the last 50 or 70 years but the people who saw Pele for example, or Di Stefano or Maradona can say are my favourite.
“In their opinions, there are sentimental approaches but on the other side, if he had not won the world cup, what he has done in world football, in my personal opinion wouldn’t have changed anything.”
