The demolition targeted an unapproved temporal structures, including the taken down of plantain plantations and trees that provides shelter for the hoodlums to give a clearer view of the enclave.

Among other structures demolished was an unapproved structure, identified as the heart of criminality within the ghetto, an area where the Nkawkaw-based musician, Phada Gaza was gruesomely killed.
Speaking to Republic Online, Municipal Chief Executive, Tamimu Halidu maintained his unflinching commitment to safeguarding lives and properties in the Municipality.

“Kwahu West must be peaceful, habitable and comfortable for people to trade. We’ve not demolished anyone’s home. It’s the bases, any place we find inhabitable will be destroyed. As MCE and Chairman of the MUSEC, it’s my responsibility to ensure peace in Nkawkaw. We’re working in accordance with the law but ghettos, as for that, I assure you that we will clamp down on those areas”,

The MCE indicated that the Assembly will provide as many streets to widen and broaden visibility in the enclave after the exercise.

On the other hand, Nkawkaw District Police has undertaken a strategic security surveillance within the Kwahu West Municipality, in an effort to combat crime-free environment and clamp down on gangsterism.

In a Thursday dawn swoop on November 6, security officers intercepted fourteen (14) suspected drug users, who will be going through screening pending court action.

The swoop forms part of the broader stakeholder-consultation, led by Municipal Chief Executive, Tamimu Halidu, in reducing the recent rise in gangsterism, drug usage and criminal activities, while emphasizing that his office remains “committed and resolute” in ensuring peace and safety in Nkawkaw.

“The highest decision making body in Security is MUSEC, it’s my responsibility to ensure everyone in Nkawkaw have peace of mind and go about their daily activities”, while warning that, every identified spot that will create a haven for criminal activities will be destroyed.

“This is step one, the next step will be out and all of you will know. We’ve cleared all the hotpsots, we’ve also scheduled to engage the leadership of the two factions. Security wise, we’re planning a lot of things but like I said, this is security matters and it must remain so. Next week Friday, November 14, we’re going to engage all of them to discuss the best way to psych and put them on rehab.

The exercise stems from last Sunday, November 2, incident where two rival groups headed by one Quarshigah and Phada Gaza, who got into dangerous show of bravado that resulted in the killing of Phada Gaza, an Nkawkaw-based musician.

The duo are said to be in an over 4-year brawl over territorial powers. The Sunday fight, saw Phada Gaza, allegedly, attack Quarshigah first in the eye, who in return retreated and attacked Gaza by smashing cutlass in his left arm, stomach and his upper-armpit.

The surviving victim, Quarshigah has been transferred to Accra for further treatment while the remains of Phada Gaza, born Frederick Osei Buabeng is deposited at the Holy Family Hospital pending investigation.
