The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has activated official procedures to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng following controversial remarks he made during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026.
In the interview, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng labeled the NPP a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member. He further alleged that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was manipulated in favor of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s candidate for the 2024 general elections.
In a statement signed by Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the party, the NPP strongly rejected these claims, describing them as “baseless and unsubstantiated.” The party stressed that the 2023 primary was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, widely acknowledged by candidates and party members alike.

The party described Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s actions as “highly reprehensible” and “inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the NPP.” In response, the party has invoked its constitutional provisions to commence expulsion procedures against the former minister, ensuring all actions follow due process.
