The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has requested the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to investigate allegations of a plot to rig the party’s presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The request follows a petition purportedly authored and signed by Alex Kwaku Tetteh, a member of the campaign team of Ken Ohene Agyapong, one of the aspirants contesting the party’s flagbearer slot. The petition was addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC).

The call for an investigation was contained in a letter dated January 6, 2026, from the party’s Presidential Elections Committee (PEC) and signed by its Secretary, William Yamoah.

In the petition, Mr Tetteh made several allegations, including claims of schemes allegedly calculated to unlawfully influence and compromise the outcome of the forthcoming NPP presidential primary.

According to the letter, the petitioner further alleged the existence of a series of covert engagements involving officials of an aspirant and certain persons said to be officials of the Electoral Commission.

“In addition to this petition, we have also intercepted two videos, which are practically making the same allegations,” the letter stated.“We are referring these three matters to you to investigate to confirm the veracity or otherwise of the allegations therein,” it added.

The letter noted that, given the seriousness of the allegations and their direct bearing on the credibility, transparency and integrity of the electoral process, the matter raises significant institutional and public concern.

“Accordingly, I have been directed by the Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee to respectfully request your esteemed office to institute an immediate, thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations contained in the petition,” it said.

It further stated that where the allegations are found to be unsubstantiated, appropriate and strict sanctions should be applied against the petitioner in accordance with the law and established procedures.

Conversely, the party said that should any of the allegations be substantiated, decisive and lawful action must be taken against all individuals found culpable.
