Flagbearer aspirants for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have decided on how they will appear on the ballot paper for the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for November 4, 2023.
The Presidential Elections Committee of the party on Wednesday September 13, 2023 had a meeting with the remaining four aspirants on the modalities for the November 4 polls.
At the end of the meeting, the secretary to the committee revealed in a statement that the contestants reached a consensus on the modalities for the conduct of the elections, and with the help of officials from the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, they conducted a successful balloting for the contestants.
The statement added that guidelines agreed upon by contestants would be communicated in due course.
On August 26, 2023, super delegates of the NPP went to the polls to select five aspirants to contest in the primaries as stated by the party’s constitution.
Delegates selected six candidates, which meant that two of the aspirants would participate in a run-off, but it had to be cancelled after former energy minister Boakye Agyarko pulled out of the race.
His decision left the party with the needed five candidates but was later reduced to four when former Trade and Industry minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen also pulled out of the race.
The remaining four aspirants; Vice President Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh are expected to contest on November 4, 2023.
