All is set for the parliamentary primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Manhyia South Constituency today, Sunday July 14, 2024.
Following the nomination of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate for the 2024 general elections, it has become necessary for the party to elect a representative for the Manhyia South Constituency.
Approximately 570 delegates comprising of 537 polling station executives from 107 polling stations, 6 electoral area coordinators, 5 council of elders, 5 patrons and 17 constituency executives will vote at a special delegates conference.
Since NAPO’s confirmation as the running mate, the party opened and closed nominations on July 8 and July 9 respectively.
Four persons were subsequently given the green light by the vetting committee led by Asokwa lawmaker and Deputy Majority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei to contest in the primary.
The candidates are; Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, a chartered accountant and manager, institutional reporting at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and brother of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s personal legal counsel and legal advisor to the Ghana Education Trust Fund, Nana Akwasi Coker Gyambibi is also a royal from the Manhyia Palace and James Owusu Boakye an Assembly member for Manhyia.
Meanwhile, a survey conducted by Prof. Smart Sarpong, a research fellow has tipped Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah to win the primary.
According to Prof Sarpong’s survey, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is expected to win the Manhyia South NPP parliamentary primary by not less than 70% of the delegates’ votes.
