Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has disclosed that the traditions of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are always better for the country.

In an exclusive interview on Adom TV’s political show ‘Badwem’ on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, he said anytime the NPP government comes into power, the Ghanaian business community becomes happy but now there’s an economic difficulty and that is the fact of the matter.

He added that he expects the media to rise above petty talk, and insults and duel on the big issues of the country.

“We’ve got to think about how to raise revenues to involve the control as a country and the means of our revenue generation, that’s what we need to focus on and get attention for which areas the country is facing major situations with unemployment in the country, “he said.

He noted that there’s a population explosion the country doesn’t talk about anymore and it’s serious.

“There’s a population explosion of which we don’t even talk about family planning anymore in this country. It’s a serious matter that we should be discussing, people should not have more than four children it’s not necessary”. He added

He further stated that the government needs to start thinking about which sectors of the economy can absorb more of the youth in Ghana into productive employment.

“We have an issue in this country that we have to be frontal and deal with it decency to the society, care for each other, respect for the Ghanaian values and the politics of slash and burn of insult must stop and the media has a point to prove. Now some journalists sit on TV to insult anyhow, we should be careful”. He cautioned.

On his view, about the large ministerial appointees in governance, he said “There’s a lot of ministries being virtually the same and not giving us any results. There’s a lot of ministers in the country that the president doesn’t know because they are many”.

Ing. Agyepong stated that all the cherished values of the country have collapsed, he further added that, Political leadership and the citizens at large have misunderstood the concept of governance and party politics and that leaders of the country should stop sharing the National cake to themselves.

Speaking about the Tema harbour, he said “The Tema harbour leaks like a basket, I think we are getting perhaps 20 percent of what we should be able to harbour because of the corruption and the collusion of the people working there.”

He advised citizens to look at themselves and cherish the Ghanaian values to enable the development of the country to flourish.

He cautioned leaders of the country to be careful about their celebratory nature and focus on rebuilding the country and restoring the cherished values of the untouched country.

He again stated emphatically, that, a leader without the character traits of service, sacrifice and selflessness should never come close to politics in the country because the democracy that we are enjoying now did not come cheap, it came through sacrifice from our forefathers and some of us even as young people.

Background

Agyepong belongs to the New Patriotic Party f Ghana. He became active in Ghanaian politics when Ghana reentered constitutional rule after over a decade of Military rule. He played roles in the campaigns of the NPP Presidential Candidates Albert Adu Boahen in 1992, and John Kufuor in 1996. He also played a role in Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign to win the presidential nomination in 1998 but subsequently played a role in the overall party effort during the 2000 General election which was won by John Kufuor. He was involved in this again in the year 2004.
