A coalition of political parties, led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has submitted a petition to the Judiciary, urging judicial authorities to prevail on President John Dramani Mahama to reverse the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Appeal to Judicial Staff
During the petition’s presentation, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin appealed to Judicial Service staff to stand with the political parties in defending justice and fairness within the judiciary. He cautioned key officials against becoming complacent, warning that the emerging pattern of removing Chief Justices and Superior Court judges with changes in political administration risks entrenching division and resentment within the system.
Warning Against Complacency
Afenyo-Markin urged judicial officials to adopt a “touch one, touch all” attitude, praying for a fair system that benefits everyone. He emphasized that the attack on the Chief Justice could set a dangerous precedent.
Response from Judicial Service
Acting Judicial Service Secretary, Dr. Cyracus Badinye Bapuoh, appreciated the delegation’s engagement and assured them that the petition would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for consideration.
