First Vice Chairman of the Okaikwei Central Constituency of the New Patriotic Party, Alhaji Harruna Rafik, says he was violently attacked shortly after attending a meeting over concerns surrounding the party’s ongoing polling station elections.
According to him, the incident occurred after a mediation meeting chaired by the Greater Accra Regional Secretary at the residence of Okaikwei Central Member of Parliament, Patrick Yaw Boamah.
“After attending a mediation meeting chaired by the Greater Accra Regional Secretary at the residence of our Member of Parliament, Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah, concerning my petition on the mishandling of the ongoing Polling Station Elections, I was violently attacked by about seven masked men immediately after stepping out of the meeting venue,” he stated.
“My only ‘crime’ has been speaking against irregularities and demanding transparency, fairness, and respect for due process in the conduct of the elections,” he added.
According to him, he sustained injuries during the incident and has since reported the matter to the police.
“I sustained injuries, have officially reported the matter to the Police, and I am currently receiving treatment at a Community Hospital in Accra,” he stated.
Alhaji Rafik further condemned what he described as intimidation and violence within internal party processes, insisting such actions would not silence him.
“Let it be known that intimidation, violence, and fear tactics will never silence some of us from defending truth, justice, and the integrity of our party,” he stressed.
He has called on the regional and national leadership of the NPP, as well as security agencies, to investigate the incident and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
“I call on the Regional and National leadership of the party, as well as the security agencies, to immediately investigate this cowardly attack and ensure that those behind it are exposed and brought to justice,” he added.
