The impending parliamentary primaries of governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is gearing up, some individuals have disclosed their interest in some seats.
These individuals include the outgoing National Organizer, Sammi Awuku, Baba Tauffic and Hanan Abdul-Wahab.
The CEO of the National Lotteries Authority, Mr. Awuku is eying the Akropong seat in the Eastern Region whereas Baba Tauffic is up for the Adentan seat in the Greater Accra Region with Hanan Abdul-Wahab also considering the Pusiga seat.
Mr. Awuku is said to have been lacing his boot to contest the Akropong Constituency election as MP for 2024 even though he is facing strong opposition from the incumbent MP and her supporters.
However, during the constituency executives elections, the Member of Parliament Nana Ama Dokua reportedly boycotted the election, hence did not step foot at the venue.
Also, the PRO of the Energy Ministry, Kwasi Obeng-Fosu who is popularly known as BT Baba Tauffic is believed to be delegates’ choice for Adentan constituency as they envisage him to be the best person to win back the seat for the party.
He was the Youth organizer when Yaw Buaben Asamoa won the seat in 2016.
The support he has is as a result of the role played in mobilizing the youth to win the 2016 elections.
He is very popular within the NPP and even the NDC as well as the other political parties in the constituency and has groomed a lot of the youth, hence the name “Homeboy”.
Many are of the view that, presenting an energetic young man who has nurtured the constituency from a party agent on many occasions, polling station executive, constituency executive and now a patron will whip up the enthusiasm and help bring all the factions together again in their bid to break the eight and win back the Adentan seat for the NPP.
Yaw Buaben Asamoa lost the seat to Hon. Adamu Ramadan in the 2020 elections.
However for Pusiga, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Mr. Hanan Abdul-Wahab is warming himself into that seat for the 2024 elections.
Chief Hanan as he’s popularly called was a member of the Campaign teams of the Northern and Upper East Regions and the Bawku Central Constituency for the 2020 elections.
During the 2020 elections, he donated Seventy-Seven (77) brand new Motorbikes to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region.
Due to his benevolence towards many of the constituents, he is tipped to be the first candidate to win the Pusiga seat for the New Patriotic Party.
He is resourceful and understands the local politics of the area.
