The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set, Sunday, September 8 for the parliamentary primary re-run in Walewale constituency, North East Region.
This comes after the Tamale High Court annulled the constituency’s primary result between Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, special advisor to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, and the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu and ordered for a re-run.
However, the NPP in a statement signed by its general secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, has announced the timeliness of the re-run.
“Nominations are set to open on Tuesday (3 September) and will close on Thursday (5 September) with the election taking place on Sunday (8 September).”
Mr. Frimpong indicated that aspiring parliamentary candidates must obtain nomination forms from the party’s headquarters, paying a non-refundable application fee of GHC3,000 and a filing fee of GHC35,000.
“However, those who participated in the general parliamentary primary election and paid the filing fees are not required to pay again”, he noted.
Meanwhile, Mr. Frimpong further named the Elections Committee responsible for overseeing the rerun.
The committee will be chaired by Alhaji Haruna Mohammed, with Alhaji Nurudeen Fuseini as vice chair and Evans Nimako as secretary, Hajia Safia Mohammed, the chairperson of the constituency council of elders, along with all constituency executives who will serve as ex-officio members.
