The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is heading to court to block the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun parliamentary elections in selected polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.

The EC recently announced its intention to hold a rerun in 19 polling stations due to concerns surrounding the credibility of the December 7, 2024, election results.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on July 3, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong questioned the legality of the EC’s move, arguing that there’s no lawful justification for ordering a rerun in only a portion of the constituency.

“The NDC is well aware they lost the election,” Frimpong stated. “The NPP is committed to defending the democratic will of the people of Ablekuma North, as clearly expressed on December 7. We have instructed our legal team to challenge what we view as an arbitrary and baseless decision by the EC in court.”
