The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for the Sunyani East Parliamentary primaries.

Due to outstanding court issues, regarding electoral processes in the constituency, the NPP parliamentary primaries which was scheduled for January 27, 2024, was put on hold

In May 2022, the High Court in Sunyani ordered the NPP in the Sunyani East to set aside the album used for the constituency elections following an injunction by some aggrieved members.

The court, presided over by Douglas Seidu, ruled that there hadn’t been “any polling station executive election, neither have they conducted any electoral area coordinator elections. These two elections must come on before the constituency elections.”

But in a statement signed by the General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua and released on Monday, February 12, the party will open nominations on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, and close nominations on Saturday, February 17, 2024.

The statement further revealed that an aspiring candidate shall procure a nomination form after the payment of a non-refundable application fee of GH¢ 3,000.00 in the banker’s draft.

It added that “to successfully file the nomination, an aspiring parliamentary candidate shall also pay a non-refundable fee of GH¢ 35,000.00 in bankers draft.

However, the party also noted that women, youth wing and persons with disabilities who want to aspire to a higher political office will enjoy a 50% rebate on the filing fee.

The NPP’s Kwasi Ameyaw-Cherimeh is the current MP for the constituency.
