The Electoral Commission (EC) in Fanteakwa North has reversed its initial declaration of the constituency’s parliamentary election results, awarding the seat to Kwame Appiah Kodua of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This decision overturns the earlier victory announced for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Haruna Apaw-Wiredu.
The initial results, announced on December 10, 2024, declared Apaw-Wiredu the winner with 11,138 votes, narrowly defeating Kodua, who garnered 10,847 votes.
However, disputes over the authenticity of pink sheets from two polling stations led to a suspension of proceedings and a thorough review by the EC.
Following the review, the Deputy Returning Officer revealed on December 11, 2024, that the discrepancies in the pink sheets had significantly impacted the results.
Consequently, the revised figures tipped the balance in favour of Kodua, effectively securing the seat for the NPP.
The development has drawn varied reactions from political stakeholders in the constituency. While NPP supporters celebrated the announcement as a vindication of their candidate, the NDC has expressed dissatisfaction, calling for further explanations from the EC.
This reversal marks a dramatic turn in Fanteakwa North’s electoral process, underlining the critical importance of accuracy in election management. The EC has assured the public of its commitment to transparency and impartiality in all electoral matters.
