A vibrant Youth – Group, (Youth Caucus for Dr. Bryan Acheampong), has condemned the distasteful show of brazen and excessive abuse of power by the John Mahama led administration, schemed to undermine and oppress the ruling NDC’s political opponents.

In a press release dated Saturday, May 24, and signed by the group’s Co – Convenor Nana Kwadwo Owusu, its said the actions, particularly, perpetuated by the Members of the National Security and led by Richard Jakpa exhibits the blatant disregard for rule of law and poses greater threats to democratic credentials. The group’s distress call stems from the unlawful intimidation and attempted arrest of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Opposition New Patriotic Party that took place in Friday, May 23 at his residence in Kumasi.

“The NPP Youth Caucus for Dr Bryan Acheampong strongly condemn the recent acts of intimidation, arbitrary arrests, and physical aggression towards members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by operatives of the National Security.

These actions represent a blatant disregard for the rule of law and pose a significant threat to Ghana’s well-respected democratic gains and freedom of expression.

In a democratic society, political expression and association are fundamental rights that must be protected. Targeting individuals based on their political affiliation undermines the very fabric of our democracy and cannot be tolerated”, parts of the statement said.

The group has further called on his Excellency President John Dramani Mahama to end the political jerimandry and ensure that the rule of law prevails.

“We call on President John Dramani Mahama and his administration to call these arbitrary acts of the National Security operatives to order. It is imperative that our security agencies operate impartially and uphold the rights of all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.

Ghana’s democracy is a collective responsibility. Let us all work together to preserve its integrity“, its stated.
